JEFFREY L. MCKEAN
Jeff McKean has handled alcoholic beverage licensing and hospitality law related
matters in Indiana since he began practicing law in 1990. Jeff represents a broad range of businesses from national retailers,
restaurants, hotels, convenience grocery operations, and concert venues to individual package stores, taverns, clubs, and
Jeff provides a full line of legal services to the hospitality and alcoholic beverage
licensing industries including application preparation, entity formation, contract negotiation, and presentations at local
and state hearings. He also assists prospective applicants in locating permits when none are available through the State and
represents permitees regarding violations issued by the Indiana State Excise Police. Jeff regularly attends the Indiana Alcohol
& Tobacco Commission bi-monthly meetings, attends various county local board meetings, and monitors alcoholic beverage
legislation to keep abreast of any developments in the industry
Jeff has received an “AV” legal and
ethical rating from Martindale-Hubbell legal directory services. This is the highest rating given by Martindale-Hubbell and
is based on random, confidential surveys of lawyers in the Indianapolis community. An “AV” rating rates legal
ability at very high to preeminent and ethical standards at very high. Jeff has also been selected as an “Indiana Super
Lawyer” which represents the top 5% of attorneys in their respective practice areas as selected by their peers and verified
by an independent research staff.
Jeff graduated from Purdue University’s prestigious Krannert School of
Business in 1986 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Management and a minor in Computer Science. He obtained his
juris doctorate from Indiana University School of Law, cum laude, in 1989. In law school, Jeff was named a Manning Scholar,
was a member of the Order of Barristers, and won the law school’s appellate advocacy competition.
as an attorney at Wooden & McLaughlin LLP, an AV rated law firm in downtown Indianapolis, for sixteen years, the last
nine years as a partner. In addition to his administrative law practice at Wooden & McLaughlin, Jeff litigated civil lawsuits,
primarily tort, product liability, and commercial matters. He has handled numerous jury and bench trials and has participated
in more than seventy-five mediations and arbitrations. Jeff has argued before the Indiana Court of Appeals and has briefed
matters to the Indiana Supreme Court.
Jeff is active in various legal organizations and industry groups. He is the past President
for the Defense Trial Counsel of Indiana. DTCI is the largest organization of civil defense litigators in Indiana with over
700 members. Jeff has been selected as Indiana's representative of Alcohol Industry Attorneys and Consultants, a national
organization comprised of outstanding attorneys in the beverage alcohol industry. Jeff is a member of the Defense Research
Institute and the Indiana State Bar Association.
Jeff is extensively involved in community activities. He serves
on the Board for the Lawrence Township School Foundation, the Purdue Sigma Chi House Cooperation, and the Lawrence Central
Athletic Booster Club. Jeff worked with children as a youth coach for various sports. He is an active member of
Holy Spirit at Geist Catholic Church. Jeff and his wife, Dixie, have two children, Corby and Carly.
